About Hwange National Park
Located in western Zimbabwe, Hwange National Park covers over 14,600 square kilometers and is home to an incredible diversity of wildlife, including more than 100 mammal species and 400 bird species. The park is particularly famous for its large elephant herds, thriving lion population, and rare species such as the African wild dog.
From Victoria Falls Town, the journey takes approximately two hours, while from Livingstone Town it is around two and a half hours, including border formalities. As you travel through rural landscapes, you will get a glimpse of Zimbabwe’s natural beauty and local life before arriving at your first stop — the Painted Dog Conservation Center.
Painted Dog Conservation Center
Your day begins with a one-hour guided tour of the Painted Dog Conservation Center. Here, you will learn about the African wild dog, one of Africa’s most endangered carnivores. Your guide will share insights into their behavior, the threats they face, and the ongoing conservation efforts to protect them. The visit may also include seeing rescued or rehabilitated wild dogs in their care.
Safari Game Drive in Hwange National Park
After your conservation encounter, you will head into Hwange National Park for a two-and-a-half-hour game drive in an open-back safari vehicle. Your knowledgeable and experienced driver-guide will take you through different habitats — from teak and mopane woodlands to wide-open savannahs — maximizing your chances of spotting iconic wildlife.
Elephants, giraffes, zebras, buffalo, kudu, wildebeest, and numerous bird species are frequently seen. With luck, you may also encounter lions, leopards, cheetahs, or the elusive sable antelope. Throughout the drive, your guide will share fascinating facts about the animals, plants, and ecology of the park, enriching your experience.
A picnic lunch will be served inside Hwange National Park, allowing you to enjoy your meal surrounded by the sights and sounds of nature.
